The MFA in Writing Program and the English Department present a reading by Thomas Sayers Ellis.
Thomas Sayers Ellis is the author of the chapbook The Genuine Negro Hero, the chaplet Song On, and the full-length collections Skin, Inc. and The Maverick Room, winner of the John C. Zacharis First Book Award. His poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including The Nation and Best American Poetry. He is the recipient of a Whiting Writer’s Award and has been awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony, the Fine Arts Work Center, and Yaddo. He teaches in the low-residency creative writing program at Lesley University and is on the faculty of Cave Canem. He co-founded The Dark Room Collective in Cambridge, Massachusetts, works as a photographer for UFCW Local 342 in New York City, and is the poetry editor of The Baffler. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, and in Washington, D.C., in the summer.
