Join us for a lecture, reading, and book launch with Dr. Aysha Hidayatullah.
Dr. Hidayatullah will speak about her new book Feminist Edges of the Quran, which presents the first comprehensive analysis of contemporary feminist Qur'anic interpretation. Examining feminist readings of the Qur'an in the United States since the late twentieth century, the book engages in a deep investigation and radical critique of their methods, approaches, and assumptions. This provocative work of Muslim feminist theology argues that many feminist interpretations of the Qur'an rely on claims about feminist justice that are not fully supported by the text and proposes a major revision to their exegetical foundations.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase courtesy of USF Bookstore.
This event is free and open to the public.
