Thomas Awiapo works for Catholic Relief Services as the Global Solidarity Coordinator. Hiswork includes connecting communities in the United States with communities in Ghana,
where he is based. Awiapo grew up as an orphan which forced him to fend for himself. He came
across a school one day that was serving meals to the students. The meals were provided by
CRS and from the on, Awiapo maintained a connection with the organization. Later, while still
in Ghana, he attended a CRS supported school. He then enrolled in school in the U.S. and
when he was not participating in academics he shared his story with other parish and school
communities.
Catholic Relief Services also helped Awiapo’s village by providing meals through Operation
Rice Bowl. This CRS program embodies the themes of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It
also creates awareness about global poverty and hunger.
Come to listen to Thomas Awiapo’s touching story and his relationship with Catholic Relief Services, and how he has
raised awareness of global issues past and present.
