Shape and Meaning: An Introduction to Topological Data Analysis

Speaker: Anthony Bak

In this talk I will explain what topological data analysis (TDA) is and why it is useful. I will cover the core algorithm used by Ayasdi to solve complex problems and describe how TDA forms a unifying framework for many machine learning and data analysis tasks. If time permits I will end with some use cases for TDA and a demonstration of the Ayasdi software.

Anthony Bak is a Senior Data Scientist and Mathematician at Ayasdi, a data analytics startup based in Palo Alto CA. Prior to Ayasdi, Anthony was a postdoc at Stanford University where worked Ayasdi co-founder Gunnar Carlsson on new methods and applications of Topological Data Analysis. As a graduate student while pursuing his Ph.D. in algebraic geometry and string theory from the University of Pennsylvania he cofounded a data analytics company consulting for political campaigns. He currently lives in San Francisco.
