Ann Jones is the author of Kabul in Winter and War is Not Over When It's Over, her newest book, which is about women in conflict zones. As part of the Spring 2013 Davies Forum, Women, Violence and War, she will lecture on "The Longest War: Militarism and the War Against Women." After her lecture, Ann Jones will be signing books, which will also be available for purchase.
While the topic of women, violence, and war is certainly as old as war
itself, a recent explosion of research on the issues has lead to crucial
shifts in understanding them. When most people think of women, violence
and war, they think of women as victims. However, women are also
actively engaged in the promotion and execution of wartime violence.
This Davies Forum, taught by Prof. Annick T.R. Wibben of the Politics
Department, gathers and interrogates the most up-to-date research by
scholars from a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds whose
combined insights provide a unique overview of the evolving roles of
women at the intersection of violence and war - from the domestic to the
international and back.
