Social Justice Activism Conference 2013
Transforming Conflicts and Societies
April 26-27, 2013
USF Main Campus, Fromm Hall
Our world is rapidly changing. Local and international conflicts abound.
With these challenges comes an unprecedented opportunity to transform
the world as it is into the world as it should be. With new approaches
and fresh ways of thinking, we now have the ability to create positive
change for thousands, if not millions, in a matter of minutes.
In April 2013, the University of San Francisco, the Center for Transformative Education, and Abraham's Vision
are running a two-day conference focused on social justice activism.
Offering a range of panels, presentations, and workshops related to the
following five tracks -- Environment, Gender and Sexual Identities,
Immigration, Race and Ethnicity, and International Conflict --
participants will have the chance to learn with scholars, professional
activists, and fellow students and alumni. The conference is open to all
USF students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as alumni of
USF-affiliated programs run in partnership with CTE and AV.
Conference Description
This April 26 and 27, the Social Justice Activism Conference 2013
on the USF campus and is open to all USF students, alumni, faculty, and
staff (FREE). The goals of the conference are to expose participants to
the multiple ways to be an activist; to teach participants about the
inter-play between various "distinct" fields of social injustice (i.e.,
intersectionality); and to to empower and excite participants to get
(more) involved in social justice-related activities.
Conference Topics
We are going to have a number of thematic tracks, all of which are
related vis-a-vis conflict, activism, and transformation, and
interlocked in terms of both intersectionality and the need for societal
change:
- Environment
- Gender and Sexual Identities
- Immigration
- Race and Ethnicity
- International Conflict
