Data Science for Sustainability: How can Call Data from the Ivory Coast
be used to improve Urban Transport Planning?
Matthew Dixon, Ph.D.,
(Adjunct Professor of Analytics (USF) and Consultant in Quantitative Analytics)
7:00pm - 8:15pm, September 5, 2013
USF Downtown Campus, Room 529
The MIT Media Lab recently organized the "Data for Development" (D4D) challenge, releasing a big anonymized call data set from the Ivory Coast for data scientists to study. This talk will present some of the challenges in detecting mobility patterns from call data and show how open source data analytics architecture can provide an effective visualization tool for urban planners to study commute behavior. Further details of this work are available at http://www.cs.usfca.edu/~mfdixon/d4d.pdf
