K. Wayne Yang was a public school teacher for over 15 years, beginning at Oakland High School where he was the chair of the science department. He co-founded East Oakland Community High School, and the Avenues Project, a youth development non-profit organization.  He and Eve Tuck are co-editors of the book, Youth Resistance Research and Theories of Change (2014). Their article, 001cDecolonization is not a metaphor001d (2012), opened the founding issue of Decolonization: Indigeneity, Education, & Society.   Currently, he is writing a book on community organizing.
