Life in the Presidio: 1776 - 1848
A Lecture by Greg Pabst at USF's Presidio Building, 920 Mason St. in the Presidio
Most Northern Californians know of the US military history of San Francisco's Presidio, but there is an earlier history - Spanish, Mexican and American - that begs to have its story told. Join us to hear the typically "Californio" story of one branch of the Family Bernal who, like many others, triumphed over poverty and peonage to become owners, for a while at least, of more land in San Francisco than the Presidio itself.
The Presidio Lecture Series is presented in collaboration with the Presidio Trust and will take place at our beautiful facility in the Presidio. USF will be providing free shuttle service between the USF main campus (corner of Parker and Golden Gate behind Fromm) and the USF Presidio Building both before and after all events. Topics will range from local/state politics to sustainability, the environment, the diversity of the Bay area’s population, the intellectual and social climate of the area, and a host of other topics relevant to this magnificent place that we call home. Please check our website regularly to learn more about these exciting lectures.
